TECHSiL's Top 5 Mould Making Materials

Mould making silicones and compounds are used across industries requiring prototypes, replicating fine details and testing for validation within automotive and aerospace for example. It is also used within consumer products where high heat and strength, along with flexibility, and chemical resistance is required. These materials are also used in creative industries, for applications in architecture and furniture manufacturing, along with part reproduction. TECHSiL offer a range of moulding materials and below we have highlighted 5 of our best, high quality mould making compounds.

TECHSiL RTV24** Moulding Compound Range

The TECHSiL RTV24** range are two-component, condensation cure, RTV silicones with high tear strength. RTV2410, RTV2420, and RTV2430 are all general-purpose mould making compounds in varying degrees of hardness: 10A Shore hardness, 20A Shore hardness and 30A Shore hardness. Once cured, this product is an exceptionally flexible rubber with good sheer life stability.

RTV24** range is suitable for mould making of intricate patterns as it offers extremely good pick up of fine details. Softer grades are better suited for use where there are deep undercuts.

Key features of RTV2410, RTV2420, RTV2430:

  • High tear strength
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Very flexible when cured
  • Good shelf-life stability
  • Easy to de-gas
  • Good detail pickup

Momentive RTV630 Lightweight Mould Silicone

Momentive RTV630 is a blue, two component, silicone compound, which cures at room temperature to a high strength silicone rubber. This medium viscosity grade forms thin, lightweight moulds with excellent durability, and has good self-levelling, allowing for precision reproduction of fine model details, making it well suited to the manufacture of intricate castings.

Potential applications include prototype parts, production tools for casting epoxies and rubber rolls. It is also suitable for use on electrical circuits requiring a tough potting compound with outstanding vibration withstanding capabilities.

Key features of RTV630:

  • Solvent free
  • Good self-levelling
  • High tear resistance
  • Low shrinkage
  • Long working time at room temperature
  • Suitable for deep section cure

Momentive TSE3455 ST Moulding Silicone

Momentive TSE3455 ST is a two-part, addition cure mould making silicone rubber. TSE3455ST cures at room temperature to a translucent, high strength elastic rubber.

Potential applications include prototype mould making for the electronics industry and is also ideal for prototype moulds for the automotive industry for the creation of console boxes, radiator grills, lamp housings and more.

Key features of TSE3455:

  • Excellent moulding durability to epoxy resin and polyurethane resins
  • Excellent release ability
  • Low viscosity
  • Excellent tear and tensile strength
  • Low shrinkage
  • Room temperature cure

Momentive RTV664 Blue Moulding Silicone Kit

RTV664 from Momentive, is a two-part addition curing, mould making silicone rubber. It offers a high durometer (62 Shore A) for applications requiring greater dimensional stability as well as a long working life which allows for potting, or reproduction, of larger parts. RTV664 has excellent chemical and abrasion resistance and was designed for high production on manufacturing lines.

Typical applications include architectural and furniture moulding, and prototyping.

Key features of RTV664:

  • High tear strength
  • Excellent dimensional stability
  • Virtually no shrinkage
  • Excellent chemical and abrasion resistance
  • Lon working time at room temperature

Momentive TSE3466 RTV Mould Making Silicone

TSE3466 is a two-part, addition cure, mould making silicone rubber material from Momentive. This RTV grade cures to a translucent, high strength elastic silicone rubber.
